Get Active – Knowsley

Giving back to our community

Get Active – Knowsley is our ongoing initiative to help children aged 6 to 16 get involved in sport. We work with local clubs to give young people, and their families, the chance to try something new and keep it going all year round.

Why we do it

Healthier, happier young people

Our Managing Director, Paul Hennessey, saw first hand how hard COVID-19 hit children's health in Knowsley, with rising obesity and mental health problems. Get Active – Knowsley was set up to tackle that, by opening doors to local sport for children who might not otherwise get the chance.

It continues to be a pleasure seeing children develop in a long term, friendly, safe and inclusive environment.

AFC Knowsley

We've had a special relationship with AFC Knowsley since 2015, supporting their youth teams. The club is responsible for over 300 children, with boys', girls', open age and disabled football teams.

Since COVID-19 we've also helped with HAF (Holiday Activities and Food) programmes and soccer camps. AFC Knowsley is a real credit to the local community.

Prescot & Odyssey Cricket Club

We teamed up with Prescot & Odyssey Cricket Club for a taster day, where over 25 Knowsley children were coached in batting, bowling and fielding for two hours by the club's professional coach, Phil.

We followed it up with two more coaching sessions and a 3 month starter membership with the club.

Liverpool Canoe Club

We teamed up with Liverpool Canoe Club for a day on the water, where over 40 Knowsley residents, including mums and dads, tried canoes, kayaks and stand up paddleboards.

Before the day, we pledged to pay for up to 100 annual family memberships, so families could keep paddling all year round.
